Other common causes for this condition include:

  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • High levels of fat in the blood
  • Genetic inheritance
  • Side effects of certain medicines such as aspirin, steroids, etc
  • Rapid weight loss

There are 4 different types of fatty liver

  • Alcoholic liver disease (ALD)

Heavy consumption of alcohol will lead to alcoholic liver disease. The liver will not be able to break down the excess of alcohol taken in by the body. Genetics can also play a role in ALD. However, if the person refrains from drinking alcohol for 6 weeks the fat will disappear.

Other factors that increase the chances of getting ALD are:

  • Obesity
  • Excess iron in the body
  • Hepatitis that may cause inflammation of the liver.
  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL)

This is not due to alcohol. This condition develops when the liver finds it difficult to break down the fat. This is diagnosed when more than 10% of the liver is fat. People with high cholesterol and diabetes have greater chances of being affected. Other factors include:

  • Malnutrition
  • Rapid weight loss
  • Viral hepatitis
  • Medications
  • Inherited liver disease

Too much of bacteria in your small intestine and other changes in the intestine may be related to the non-alcoholic liver disease.

Acute fatty liver of pregnancy

It’s a very rare case that fat is deposited in the liver during pregnancy. It may lead to serious issues such as liver or kidney failure either in you or your baby. • Pain in the upper-right abdomen
  • Persistent nausea or vomiting
  • Jaundice
  • Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis

  • Abdominal pain

Diagnosis

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Solution

Physical exam: your doctor can detect it just by examining your abdomen. Also tell your doctor about your medical history, medications, alcohol and supplement use.

Blood tests: your doctor may observe that the liver enzymes are higher than that in a routine blood test. This doesn’t confirm fatty liver. Further testing should be done.

Ultrasound: one may take up ultrasound or CT or MRI scan to detect the amount of fat deposition in the liver.

Liver biopsy: in a liver biopsy, the doctor will insert a needle into your liver to remove a tissue for examination. This will also help to detect the exact cause.

Treatment Options

There is no treatment, surgery or medication for fatty liver. Instead, your doctor will suggest ways and means reduce the risk factors. It includes:

  • Limiting or avoiding alcoholic beverages
  • Managing cholesterol levels
  • Losing weight
  • Controlling blood sugar
  • Regular physical activities
  • Diet control
  • Include more of protein in your diet

Milk Thistle

One of the most famous fatty liver remedy is milk thistle. This herb contains huge amounts of antioxidants therefore it helps the body get rid of the toxins present in the blood. Milk thistle also helps in restoring the liver cells that have been damaged. Certain vitamins such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E are also important to keep the liver healthy. They are also good sources of antioxidants and they help keep the blood clean. This lessens the burden of the liver and helps the organ recuperate.

Weight Loss

Experts say that losing weight is also a good way to protect the liver. Fatty liver is a condition that happens when fat cells gather around the organ. The best way to cure this is to decrease the number of fat cells in the body by losing the extra pounds. When you lose weight, the excess fats are burned. You can start by reducing the calories that you consume each day. You can design your meal plans in such a way that you discard items that are rich in fats such as deep fried foods and cholesterol-rich foods.

Reduce Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol is also a no-no. Alcohol has substances that can severely damage the liver. Until the condition is completely cured, avoid all alcohol. Stick with water because it will help in cleaning the blood and lessening the work of this vital organ. If you are taking medications or supplements, you may want to consult your doctor if you can limit them. Medications are also being processed in the liver and contain substances that can irritate the organ. For instance, aspirin and other pain killers have substances that can aggravate the fatty liver condition. If you can stick with natural remedies, it is better. If not, you should ask your doctor for lighter alternatives.

Reduce Carb Intake

Carbohydrates and sugar also play a big role in treating this condition. You should control and limit your intake of these substances. When the blood sugar level in the body are high, it has the tendency to store fats instead of burning them for energy use. The body’s main storage is the liver, thus diabetes can further worsen the condition. Eat foods that have complex sugar and carbohydrates so the body’s sugar level is regulated.
